Traces of Guilt

A Book Review

Traces of Guilt

Every county has cases that have gone cold, but Carin County, Illinois is about to have two of their cold cases heated up. Evie Blackwell has a knack for solving real-life puzzles. When she turns her attention to two different missing persons cases she might just be able to solve the unsolvable.

While Gabriel Thane does a good job as Sheriff of Carin, he’s not sure about the hard questions that Evie directs toward the case. But he also realizes the benefit of having an unbiased investigator look at the evidence. Could the answer to these two cases have been right under his nose the whole time?

With new evidence coming in hopes rise that the answers to these mysteries will come to light, but can Evie and Gabriel find a way to solve the cases before they turn cold again?

Like many Dee Henderson books, you will find familiar characters tucked between the pages of this book. Ann Falcon plays a big part in the set up of this novel. I have to admit I’m not sure I’d want Ann showing up at my door. She’s bringing a lot of bad news for the Thane family. She drops bombshell after bombshell. None of the Thane brothers are immune to her distressing revelations.

I really enjoyed this novel. I have been disappointed in recent Dee Henderson books, but I was not disappointed in this one. Past novels have pulled the main characters away from the climatic scenes, but due to the nature of cold cases, that didn’t happen here – and I am so glad!

I really am looking forward to reading more books like this one. I like that the cover calls this “An Evie Blackwell Cold Case.” I hope that means there will be more novels like this coming in the future.

If you like to try and solve crime fiction, especially difficult cold cases, you will really enjoy this book.
