Esther Larsen is one of the best risk analyst in the country, but her boss doesn’t want to hear what she really has to say. He’s given her a gag order when it comes to talking about the real risks with the speculative investments he wants to do. These investments can earn him several hundred million dollars in a single day.
But Esther’s conscious continues to nag at her. She can see the writing on the wall. If the institutions of the world continue to do these types of trades, the entire global economy may come crashing down. But saying anything could cost her not only her job, but perhaps her life.
Is Esther willing to say what needs to be said before it is too late? Is this the time that God has prepared her for?
I have to admit that I’m not fond of talking about finances, but I couldn’t let a book by Davis Bunn go without giving it a chance. Despite all the money talk, I really enjoyed this book. It is full of action and suspense (and a whole lot of lingo that I really couldn’t appreciate).
After finishing this novel, I was sharing my thoughts with my family over dinner. My husband, who doesn’t have time in his day to read novels, was intrigued with the idea. So much so, that when he couldn’t sleep that night, he picked up The Domino Effect to help him relax. He seems to be enjoying it as well.
If you are a fan of Davis Bunn and enjoy suspense, I recommend this book. If you are interested in economics and speculation of what could happen in the global economy, I highly recommend this book to you.
Esther Larsen, a top risk analyst at one of the country’s largest banking institutions, is becoming more and more convinced that she has uncovered a ticking bomb with the potential to make the 2008 market crash look minor by comparison. And as her own employer pursues “investment” strategies with ever-increasing levels of risk, she becomes convinced she must do something. But Esther is only one person; can she stand up to an international conspiracy of greed? And if she does, will anyone take her seriously?
Every moment of indecision edges the markets closer to a tipping point–the teetering first domino in a standing row that circles the globe. And when Esther finds her voice, those she seeks to expose will not sit idly by. With global markets on the brink, and her own life in danger, Esther is locked in a race against the clock to avert a financial tsunami that threatens worldwide devastation.
